A dog is your best friend with whom you want to share as many beautiful moments as possible. Of course you want your dog to be happy! But how do you know if your dog is really happy? Here are three important signs that your dog is happy and that you are doing things right.
Body Language
One of the easiest ways to know if your dog is happy is to watch his body language. Body language is the key to understanding your dog's emotions. It is the physical representation of how he feels inside.
Happy dogs have a fairly relaxed posture. If your dog lies down on his back and he shows his belly, bonus points for you! That means he is completely comfortable and trusts you!
If your dog shows wide spread eyes and erect ears, something is demanding his attention. He does not feel relaxed. The same goes for a dog with his tail between his legs. This often indicates anxiety.
Tasty food
Another good indicator is that your dog is eating well. Dogs that eat their food palatably and of course the occasional snack , generally indicate that they are happy. However, if your dog tends to avoid food or stop eating altogether, that is a sign that something may be wrong.
It could be a simple explanation, perhaps your dog is picky and does not like the food you give him. Try different foods. However, if he is still not eating, it may indicate a physical or mental problem that needs to be examined by your veterinarian.
Eager to play
Playing is a big part of a dog's life. Therefore, it is important that your dog likes to play and play a lot. Playing is not only good for happiness levels, but also for many other reasons, such as fighting boredom and maintaining a healthy mind. Seeing your dog get excited about playing or spending time with you is an important indicator of his happiness. Occasional variety in play or toys helps greatly with motivation during play.
Playing with other dogs is also a good sign. Dogs are pack animals and generally like interacting with others, unless they have experienced a traumatic event with other dogs in the past. Seeing them make friends at the park or generally be relaxed around other dogs is a good sign that they are happy.
Does your dog meet these three points? Good job! Your dog not only makes you happy but you make him happy too.
